Remembrances – Reflections of healing” is a collection of participatory films made by young girls who were living in our partner organization Shakti Samuha’s shelter home. In this collection of short films young girls and women who are survivors of human trafficking share their unique stories from their perspective. VOW Media trained them on photography and videography for 4 months and the photo stories which were ultimately created by them not only demonstrates strength, courage, and activism but can also be used as an advocacy tool to raise awareness of human trafficking in Nepal. The classes were interspersed with workshops on women’s  rights, feminism, human rights, and leadership.

The public screening of this film was held at the Outdoor Adventure Center Nepal in Thamel on 11 December 2017.

The program started off with a quick opening about this project and the objective of this project, is to enable the girls to voice out their stories themselves by using these media tools. It was followed by a powerful dance performance by members of Shakti Samuha and then the film screening. We also launched our book “Remembrances” which is a collection of photo stories. These photos were taken by the participants during the workshops and assignments. The book was launched jointly by Charimaya Tamang, co-founder of Shakti Samuha and Pooja Pant, Director of VOW Media.

The program concluded with a short Question and Answer session where Charimaya Tamang and Pooja Pant answered all the queries the audience had.
